Snappers Introduce a new GM
By Ed Malloy
March 5, 2010
Downington, PA - Ed Malloy was introduced today as the Snappers new GM. Malloy takes over the reigns of the first year entry in the Ahiba League. Malloy was very specific during his comments as for the direction he intends to take the team, saying he wanted to provide the rabid fans of the Snappers with a winning team as soon as possible.
Like any expansion team we have to be realistic in our expectations. The fact that we are in a division with other expansion teams should give us a chance to be competitive right away. But being an expansion team, with all players brought in through the expansion draft and free agent signings, depth over the long season will be the big issue. Hopefully injuries will not hurt our team and we can keep our best players on the field and continue to compete, as the Snappers have during the opening weeks of the season.
When questioned on his overall team philosophy for building a winner for Downington, Malloy promised to bring in players who play the game hard and do things the proper way. We will cherish as gold our draft picks, as I truly believe in the grow our own approach as compared to free spending on overpriced with little left free agents.
When asked about taking over the team after it was put together by another GM, Malloy said he can't worry about what ifs, and the players here are our players. He intends to spend the next few days evaluating the talent in the organization and will quickly put his stamp on the setup of the teams. We have entirely too many players in some of our minor league camps and I will have to sit down with the managers, get their input, and get the teams down to a workable size.
As far as the Snappers ML squad the season is well underway and as long as the players that have the jobs work hard and give a solid effort they will continue to hold their jubs until someone steps up and takes the job away.
