Monday, September 17th, 2012: 25-year-old Waylon Simmons sent shock waves through AHIBA3 last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Hurlers League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Simmons made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .567 average, 17 hits in 30 at-bats, 1 home run and 5 runs batted in.
Where the Thunder Bay Bombers right fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Simmons certainly made his mark last week.
Hitting .376 to date, Simmons has 15 home runs and 67 RBIs. He has played in 81 games. |
 | Roberson of Mystic Player of the Week
Monday, September 17th, 2012: Deron Roberson of the Mystic Barracudas might have lost a step over the years, but the 35-year-old right fielder can still get it done. He beat out several other worthy Sluggers League hitters over this past week to claim the Player of the Week Award.
Roberson posted a .478 batting average with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs last week while scoring 8 runs. For the week he was 11 for 23.
This season Roberson is batting .309 with 164 hits, 26 home runs, 73 RBIs, 42 walks, .364 OBP and has scored 78 runs. He has played in 142 games. |
 | Woodland Baseball Club Ruíz Sizzles with Cycle
Saturday, September 15th, 2012: It was his day, but the Fort Worth Longhorns overcame a cycle by César Ruíz in a 12-3 victory over the Houston Woodland Baseball Club at Woodland Grounds today.
"It feels good for me, but it would have felt even better if we had won that ballgame," Ruíz told the press corps. "I still enjoy it, but I would've liked to win the ballgame, too."
He cracked 4 hits in 4 at-bats, had 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Although his team lost, the Woodland Baseball Club catcher will still get his place in the record books.
This season Ruíz is hitting .298 with 157 hits, 45 home runs, 129 RBIs, scored 100 runs and played in 133 games. |
